Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
